Nepal presented its national report in the 4th cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) in the ongoing 51st Session of the Human Rights Council, UPR Working Group at Palais des Nations in Geneva today.
Leader of Nepali Delegation, Foreign Secretary His Excellency Mr. Amrit Bahadur Rai, presented Nepal’s national report underscoring the progress, improvements and challenges in advancing the human rights and reaffirmed its commitment to the protection and promotion of human rights domestically and internationally.
Participating in the interactive dialogue, over 100 delegations of the UN Member States appreciated Nepal’s efforts to implement the recommendations of the previous reviews, its strides to improve the human rights situation, and its commitment to upholding all human rights while offering recommendations for the advancement of the human rights in the country.
The UPR is a unique mechanism of the Human Rights Council that calls for each UN Member State to undergo a peer review of its human rights records every 4.5 years. The UPR provides each State the opportunity to regularly report on the actions it has taken to improve the human rights situations, and to overcome challenges to the enjoyment of human rights, and receive observations, comments, and recommendations from UN Member States for continuous improvement.
Nepali delegation led by Foreign Secretary, His Excellency Mr. Amrit Bahadur Rai, comprises His Excellency Mr. Ram Prasad Subedi, Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva, senior officials from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, and the Permanent Mission of Nepal in Geneva.
Nepal’s 5th cycle of Universal Periodic Review will take place after 4.5 years, tentatively in 2030.
